Why EVERYONE should be using Kettlebells!

Reap the rewards of this powerful tool

We can safely agree that Kettlebell training is often deemed as unconventional within Western Culture and if we’re honest about it I understand why.

For so many years Kettlebells were often only selected for a single movement because the other vast array exercises were simply not showcased. I mean if we think about it heavily linked to coaching qualifications, Kettlebell exercises are very rarely discussed and not taught so it makes perfect sense as to why PT’s don’t take you through them.

Recently this style of training is growing in popularity but it’s still very much “underground” like Fight Club except everyone should be talking about it!

Now you may be sitting there wondering why you should use Kettlebells within your training sessions and it’s a perfectly acceptable question to ask. We are told that you MUST do your 3 sets of 10 reps to create progress and when you have someone like me saying…

Hey, I can help you produce more muscle mass using this single piece of equipment for 20 minutes than what you’ve been doing within your 2 hour long sessions”

It can leave you feeling utterly baffled right? Well let’s break this down and the best way of doing this is by using the King, the almighty that is the Kettlebell Swing. This exercise alone trains:

  • Abdominals
  • Shoulders
  • Quads
  • Hamstrings
  • Glutes
  • Lower and upper back
  • Biceps
  • Forearms

Then if we add in how it can skyrocket your conditioning and help torch that pesky fat….yeah even I’m sitting here thinking about how POWERFUL this exercise is.

I often use the phrase “bang for your buck” when it comes to exercise selection and equipment purchasing, it basically means getting the most amount of value/results out of everything that you do. Rather than filling a programme with unnecessary fluff I’d rather choose 1 or 2 movements that will cover all bases than waste your time.

And this is Kettlebell training in a nutshell, every movement trains multiple muscle groups at once without the need of isolation, without the need of spending countless hours in the gym. By the way I don’t think it’s a bad thing to be in the gym for a long time but you want to maximise your training time.

Now if we forget the focus on progression for a minute and look into Kettlebells from a different angle…every session is FUN. It’s enjoyable, constantly varied, new lessons to be learnt, movements to practise, they can really spice up your training routine.

Plus….you look like an absolute boss snatching a KB in gyms (by snatching I mean actually doing a snatch not trying to steal a KB) 😉

I could go on for hours as to why I believe everyone should be using Kettlebells and it’s fantastic to see more people using them. So why not give them a go? See if you enjoy it and who knows it may completely change how you perceive training…plus you’ll be thanking me when the results start flooding in!
